The History of Hair Removal

Follow

Have you ever wondered why the bikini wax is so popular or why the average American woman will spend 9 full days every 5 years shaving her legs?

In 30,000 BC, the flint was used as a shaving device.  Eventually, cavemen began using seashell tweezers around 10,000 BC and in 1901, Gillette created the first disposable blade.

The Egyptians first began waxing with a mixture of oil and honey and in the 1960s, the bikini wax was invented in the United States.

Hair removal has been around for long time, and it looks like it won’t be going anywhere.  Shaving can lead to discomfort and ingrown hairs, and waxing doesn’t always necessarily have to be painful.  See your esthetician for a consultation.

With shaving and waxing, there is always the concern that inflammation and bacteria can thrive, so we recommend using salicylic acid or tea tree oil to battle this potential issue.  Both can be found at your local drug store.

If you have a good esthetician, your wax should last between 4 and 6 weeks.  Wax on, wax off!
